Facebook EdgeRank is simply the system that Facebook uses to determine how popular, relevant or interesting your content is to your Facebook friends. The system determines if your content is worthy of appearing in the news feed of your Facebook friends.

Many believe Facebook Marketing is a numbers game. They’re right to an extent. Without a large number of Facebook friends, the chances of you generating a large number of likes, shares and comments on a single post is slim. However, it’s your EdgeRank that’ll determine the ultimate “reach” of your content on Facebook.

So the higher your EdgeRank, the more likely your content will appear in your friends’ news feed, the more likely you are to receive a large number of likes, comments and shares. If you have a large number of Facebook friends and they’re hooked on your content, you’ll gain authority fast and be in a position to market your opportunities.

3 reasons to generate as many likes, shares and comments with your content on Facebook:

1. Attention – Many people liking the same content will draw serious attention to your content, we like to think we are all unique when in fact on Facebook there is definitely a pack mentality. More likes = more likes!

2. EdgeRank – The more people that like, share and comment on your content, the higher your EdgeRank will be, the more your Facebook friends will see your content in their news feed, the more likes you’ll get, and so on and so on.

3. Authority/Credibility/Positioning – Improving your EdgeRank will lead to you being perceived as popular, interesting and someone people will want to get to know. Master it and you’ll position yourself as a leader of friends.

So basically growing your Facebook friends by adding tons of users isn’t going to give you the authority or positioning your online business needs. If your content isn’t shared, liked or commented on then Facebook thinks you’re irrelavant or even worse, just not that interesting…

7 ways to improve your Facebook EdgeRank…

1. The “Like Wheel”

This has worked amazingly well for us…it’s cyclical. We’re still amazed at the consistent results. Basically find great content from your Facebook friends [simply check out your news feed on a daily basis] and like, comment and share the content. You’ll be amazed at how your friends will support you as you have supported them by liking, commenting and sharing their stuff = Mega EdgeRank!

2. Form Alliances

Form a imaginary liking pact with your closest allies. This is common sense but the people who are most likely to like your content are your closest friends, colleagues and associates. Focus on supporting them and they’ll show the you the same support in return. You won’t need to ask, you’ll develop a liking synergy.

3. Just Ask!

Ask your Facebook friends to get involved. Ask them what they think. Ask them to contribute without actually asking them to contribute. Be controversial. Be different. Be interesting. Start Discussions that will provoke interest. One day we generated a ton of likes for one of our Facebook pages by just asking people to go and like it and we’d do the same when they needed us. Sometimes you just need to be honest about what you need and what you need your friends to do [even better if there's something in it for them].

4. Use Striking Images with Your Posts

Images reinforce the impact of your posts and catch the Eye. Post big colorful, eye catching images where you can. In our experience, an amazing image combined with thought provoking sentiment is a fantastic way to grab attention and get people to get more likes from your Facebook friends.

5. Post, Share, Like, Comment Daily

Even if it’s just for 10 minutes. Nothing beats interesting consistent content, post regularly to build authority, credibility and get more likes.

6. Go easy on the Twitter Feed

Don’t completely automate your Facebook marketing. Many automatically send their Twitter posts over to their Facebook profile/page. It doesn’t encourage your friends to like, share and comment on the content. It gives the impression that you’re a bit lazy, you don’t spend a lot of time on Facebook and you’re less likely to like, comment and share back, so stay away from FULLY automating your content. This automation can be useful though and definitely has it’s place.

7. Don’t Post Business Opportunities Too Often

It’s tempting but don’t post your business opportunities too often. It’s an obvious one but if you do, you’ll lose your credibility fast.

Facebook EdgeRank measures relevance of content as to how how many of your Facebook friends actually find your posts interesting, by analysing likes, comments and shares on these posts. Try to improve your Facebook EdgeRank, it’s easy to do and the next time you post your business opportunity, you’ll have a greater chance of it being seen by a greater number of your Facebook friends.
